{"id":10925,"date":"2024-06-05T08:14:23","date_gmt":"2024-06-05T12:14:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mote.org\/animal-patients\/hazelnut\/"},"modified":"2026-01-10T23:32:39","modified_gmt":"2026-01-11T04:32:39","slug":"hazelnut","status":"publish","type":"patient","link":"https:\/\/mote.org\/animal-patients\/hazelnut\/","title":{"rendered":"Hazelnut"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>03\/05\/2023\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0Turtle was found floating just south of the Cortez Bridge in Manatee County.\u00a0Animal was transported to Mote for assesment and rehabilitation.\u00a0Animal is exhibiting signs of likely red tide toxicity and possible lethargic loggerhead syndrome.\u00a0Hazelnut was given subcutaneous fluids and injectable antibiotics and was dry-docked overnight due to lethargy and neurologic issues.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>03\/06\/2023<\/strong>\u00a0Hazelnut was moved to a rehab. pool in very shallow water.\u00a0Turtle is still showing signs of lethargy and red tide toxicity, but did some eat squid when offered.<\/p>\n<p><strong>03\/10\/2023<\/strong>\u00a0Hazelnut is eating well and is more alert.\u00a0Water level is still shallow until turtle is more active.<\/p>\n<p><strong>03\/22\/2023\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0Hazelnut&#8217;s tank depth was increased a couple inches.\u00a0Turtle continues to eat all seafood offered and is still on an antibiotic injection every couple days and an iron injection once weekly until blood work improves.<\/p>\n<p><strong>04\/05\/2023<\/strong>\u00a0White blood cell count has improved, so turtle is no longer being given antibiotics.\u00a0Turtle is still quite anemic, so is receiving weekly iron injections.\u00a0Hazelnut has already gained 7.5 lbs. since stranding, but is still considered extremely underweight.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>04\/21\/2023<\/strong>\u00a0Hazelnut continues to forage full diet offered daily.\u00a0Was administered Panacur anti-parasitic two weeks apart in case parasites are contibuting to anemia.\u00a0Turtle is much more active and spends much of the day swimming, so tank depth was raised to full.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>05\/04\/2023<\/strong>\u00a0Hazelnut is eating great but is still very underweight.\u00a0Considers to receive weekly iron injections until anemia is improved.<\/p>\n<p><strong>05\/20\/2023\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0Hazelnut&#8217;s blood parameters are continuing to improve.\u00a0He still needs to gain some weight, but is eagerly eating his full diet daily.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>06\/24\/2023<\/strong>\u00a0Hazelnut continues to do well and eats well daily.\u00a0He is still extremely underweight, but has gained 27 lbs since being admitted into rehab.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>07\/15\/2023<\/strong>\u00a0Hazelnut continues to eat well and is steadily gaining weight.\u00a0He is now on an anti-parasitic medication.<\/p>\n<p><strong>07\/29\/2023\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0Hazelnut&#8217;s blood parameters have improved and he is now off all medications.<\/p>\n<p><strong>08\/11\/2023<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0Palmer and Hazelnut were released at Lido Beach today!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>03\/05\/2023\u00a0\u00a0Turtle was found floating just south of the Cortez Bridge in Manatee County.\u00a0Animal was transported to Mote for assesment and rehabilitation.\u00a0Animal is exhibiting signs of likely red tide toxicity and&nbsp;<span class=\"ellipsis\">&hellip;<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"featured_media":0,"template":"","class_list":["post-10925","patient","type-patient","status-publish","hentry"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v26.7 - https:\/\/yoast.com\/wordpress\/plugins\/seo\/ -->\n<title>Hazelnut | Mote Marine Laboratory &amp;
