{"id":3752,"date":"2020-06-19T18:39:10","date_gmt":"2020-06-19T22:39:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mote.org\/?p=3752"},"modified":"2024-03-14T18:49:23","modified_gmt":"2024-03-14T22:49:23","slug":"mote-marine-laboratory-to-be-featured-on-pbs-program-changing-seas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mote.org\/news\/mote-marine-laboratory-to-be-featured-on-pbs-program-changing-seas\/","title":{"rendered":"Mote Marine Laboratory to be featured on PBS program Changing Seas"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>Mote Marine Laboratory &amp; Aquarium is excited to announce that its groundbreaking research on blue holes will be featured on South Florida PBS\u2019s Emmy-award winning original series, Changing Seas, during its 12th season premiere on two television stations: WPBT on June 24 at 8 p.m. and WXEL on June 28 at 9 p.m.<\/div>\n<h6><\/h6>\n<p>The episode \u201cFlorida\u2019s Blue Holes: Oases in the Sea\u201d follows a team of exploration scientists and divers who set out to uncover the mysteries of the submerged holes. Mote scientists <a href=\"https:\/\/mote.org\/staff\/member\/emily-hall\">Dr. Emily Hall<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/mote.org\/staff\/member\/jim-culter\">Jim Culter<\/a>, two of the researchers leading the exploration and research, will also participate in an interactive virtual screening and Q&amp;A on July 14 at 6:30 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>Blue holes, or underwater sinkholes are karst (calcium carbonate rock) features that are scattered across Florida\u2019s shelf floor. They vary in size, shape and depth, but most are \u201cecological hot spots\u201d because they are extremely biologically diverse compared to the waters around them.
