{"id":5376,"date":"2024-04-08T13:59:03","date_gmt":"2024-04-08T17:59:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mote.org\/animal-patients\/cascade\/"},"modified":"2026-01-10T23:32:23","modified_gmt":"2026-01-11T04:32:23","slug":"cascade","status":"publish","type":"patient","link":"https:\/\/mote.org\/animal-patients\/cascade\/","title":{"rendered":"Cascade"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>November 25-30th\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0Turtles stranded in Cape Cod as part of a cold stun event when temperatures dropped.\u00a0They were triaged and slowly warmed back up at New England Aquarium.\u00a0All turtles were started on subcutaneous fluids, vitamin injections, and injectable antibiotics.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>12\/05\/2023<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0Turtles were transported to Florida by a volunteer pilot coordinated by Turtles Fly Too.\u00a0Fourteen of the Kemp&#8217;s were transported to Mote where they were examined, weighed, had blood work done, and were situated in rehab. pools in shallow water.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>12\/16\/2023\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>All turtles have eaten at least a small amount of capelin, shrimp, or squid since arriving at Mote.\u00a0They are still receiving injectable antibiotics every couple days and are starting to actively swim more often.<\/p>\n<p><strong>12\/30\/2023<\/strong>\u00a0All tanks with cold stun turtles have been raised to full water depth, as the animals have become much stronger and more active.\u00a0Most of the turtles are continuing to forage for all prey items offered and continue to receive injectable antibiotics to help treat any pneumonia.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>01\/13\/2024\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0Blood work shows an improved white blood cell count and radiographs show improvement in signs of pneumonia, so antibiotics were discontinued.\u00a0All turtles are eating well and gaining weight.<\/p>\n<p><strong>02\/10\/2024\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0Turtle is very active and continues to eat all seafood offered.\u00a0Radiographs continue to show signs of pneumonia that is slowly improving.<\/p>\n<p><strong>02\/21\/2024\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0Canton, Cascade, Cincy, Jackson, Jersey, Point Lookout, Sedona, Shenandoah, and Grand Teton were transported by Mote staff to the middle of the state and were released on the east coast of Florida by FWC staff.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>November 25-30th\u00a0\u00a0Turtles stranded in Cape Cod as part of a cold stun event when temperatures dropped.\u00a0They were triaged and slowly warmed back up at New England Aquarium.\u00a0All turtles were started&nbsp;<span class=\"ellipsis\">&hellip;<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"featured_media":5377,"template":"","class_list":["post-5376","patient","type-patient","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v26.7 - https:\/\/yoast.com\/wordpress\/plugins\/seo\/ -->\n<title>Cascade | Mote Marine Laboratory &amp;
